I've lived in both New Zealand and Australia. You have a pretty broad question here .... with many options.
Yes, agents suck! They take all your money and stuff you around - Basically you CAN do everything yourself - why not give it a go?!
I'll list some sites for you to do a bit of research on as I am not sure if you are inquiring on coming to NZ or Australia.
NZ -
New Zealand Immigration http://www.immigration.govt.nz
Free Advice (Forum) http://www.movetonz.org
Working in NZ http://www.workingin-newzealand.com
For NZ skilled jobs go to http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzopportu...
http://www.justlanded.com/english/new_ze... is a great guide that explains things in plain English, applying for visas, working or as an international student etc…
Australia -
Immigration for Australia - http://www.immi.gov.au
About working in Aussie - http://www.workingin-australia.com
For Australia Skilled Immigration Assessment Form - http://www.workpermit.com/australia/relo...
http://www.justlanded.com/english/austra... is a great guide that explains things in plain English, applying for visas, working or as an international student etc…
Hope this is some help to you.

Reply:HI Anish,
You can follow the steps below;
Check if your skill is listed in the Sponsorship Eligibility List (http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au/Vie... )
Download the DIAC Booklet 6: General Skilled Migration ( http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets... )
Update your resume (CV) with your work experience and achievements.
Apply for skills assessment based on your qualification. Apply to any of the states below for State Sponsorship. They will require your updated resume (CV), IELTS and skills assessment result. You will be issued with a state sponsorship letter.
1. http://www.business.nsw.gov.au/
2. http://www.business.act.gov.au/
3. http://www.migration.wa.gov.au/
4. http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au/
5. http://www.development.tas.gov.au/

Finally apply for VISA through Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) http://www.immi.gov.au/immigration.htm . They will require state sponsorship letter, birth certificate, IELTS and skills assessment results etc
After VISA approval, they will request for your international passport for VISA evidence or stamping.

Good luck.
