He really wants to be a fire fighter, but he is worried that something he got pinned with (he was in the car with someone younger than him who had something "illegal" so he got charged) and given a class C felony for will make him unable to be one. He is a drug-free person and is almost done with probation for the "crime." Other than that, he has some traffic violations, but nothing major. What are his possibilities?
Can you be a firefighter if you have an old class c felony for posession? (asking for a friend)?
No they wont BUT talk to your lawyer about having your record expunged or wiped clean that will help
Reply:Tell your friend to call the recruitment center and ask. And by the way, it makes me ill to know that someone who has a history of being with people who abuse drugs, wants to be in a position to "help" others because that is a clear indication of problems with judgement.
There are many other occupations such a person could endeavor to take which would not endanger anyone. People who seek the best employment which is supposed to help others should be without the excuses your friend may have.
Reply:MOST, states will not allow someone on probation or parole to hold city, county or state, federal jobs.
Our state will let you, after 5 years with no repeat offenses once you are off probation.
Reply:A lot of departments won't accept anyone with any prior felonies, no matter what they are. I don't know that it is a national standard though.
Reply:I say go for it, No1's perfect. I have the same problem except im taking an EMT course trying to be an EMT. My instructor who is an EMT-Paramedic/ Firefighter tells me not 2 worry about it. Also he said he got charged for alcohol that wasnt his. these ppl that say your friend is going to endanger someone has no idea what he's going through. If he was in any position to endanger someone he wouldnt want to be helping PPL. I have friends that had to sell drugs to put diapers on there baby.doesnt make them a bad person. Just makes them desperate and forces them 2 make bad CHOICES. Your friend needed a ride. Bad choice but who wouldnt have taken it? Tell him to take a fire safety course and show he has good judgement and then go for it. Dont take the test w.o proof hes a decent hard working human
