it seems these days if u commit any crime ur SOL and to me thats ridiculous b/c i think everyone deserves a second chance, does anyone else agree?
I have a friend who cant get an apartment b/c he's a felon does anyone know what he can do? thanks?
There is an organization called Second Chance that may be able to counsel him. He can probably reach them through the Salvation Army.
Reply:I don't know what you can do. Perhaps contact the state ACLU. or Fair Housing Board. That is wrong not to give people a second chance. How can someone make a new start when the legal ways are roadblocked?
Reply:Yes, I agree that everyone deserves a second chance. We are only human and humans make mistakes. What you can do is go on line in look up listings for apartments for felony's and there should be some in there. OR You could go down to your local resource office and they should have listings for that kind of stuff. I been through the same thing he's going through and its not easy. just keep trying and don't give up. I didn't. And I've been in my place for going on 4 years.
Reply:He can consult an attorney....in some states that is a form of discrimination based on the felony he was convicted of...however if he was convicted of a felony like murder, rape, or another major felony he will be stuck entering into tenant-at-will contracts until he can establish a reference then move on to a normal lease.
Reply:HE CAN SUE ,if he was told that was the reason for denial
they say its not discrimination because conviction knows no color, race, creed,or religion but it is. they claim it is to keep out sex offenders but that is still discrimination
call the aclu they love stuff like that just gets them all giddy
